Will our lonely planet be hit by stone?

Will the world end in 2012?

Will a stone hit our planet in 2029? Or 6 March, 2880

Lets face it we are all screwed in the end if not by a comet or natural disaster, by mysterious deadly viral disease, natural death, atomic bomb from Iran, genocide etc the list is as your imagination can take you, they say it’ll be us (mankind) that finish life right, so i was watching this movie 2012 and also the Notrademus documentary about the ‘end’ or ‘beginning’ of new civilization in 2012, which also is said to have been predicted by the Mayan people, also reading the book of Daniel and revelation, it got me thinking what if our lonely planet will be crashed by a wandering notorious gigantic stone? From wherever God know where ?What are the chances of cosmic impact threatening our lovely home? Think bout it, what if its true?

There has been six mass extincts before on our planet and the nearest was 65 million years ago when a huge space rock that hit Mexico ‘s Yucatan Penninsula 65 million years ago wiping off the dinosaurs along with most life on Earth.

Billions of years ago impacts were far more common when planets were still forming and bushels of debris were flying madly around,[ And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep” (Genesis 1:2)] clearly displayed on the moon, which is pockmarked with impact craters, while on Earth, most scars of ancient impacts have been erased due to Earth’s constant remodeling. Plates shift, mountains form, volcanoes erupt and erosion washes over the planet’s surface, continually hiding the evidence of most craters.

Someone told me ‘Lawrence sometimes we have to look at out past to know where we are going’ and if we take a closer look at our planet there are scars from previous cosmic ‘ attacks ‘ kweli rongo?example is ;

Arizona’s Barringer Meteor Crater, created around 50,000 years ago. Though this crater, one of the most famous, awes tourists with its roughly three-quarters of a mile (1.2 km) diameter, it is considered quite dinky on the geological scale its Earth’s most recently-formed holes, we also have

Manicouagan in Quebec , Canada . Scientists estimate this crater is more than a hundred times wider than Barringer, and was made more than 200 million years ago, we also have

South Africa’s Vredefort crater, major heavyweight, which at 186 miles (300 km) wide, is said to be Earth’s largest verified impact crater. At more than 2 billion years old, it is also one of the most ancient.

Other contenders are the 155 mile-wide (250 km-wide) Sudbury Basin in Ontario, Canada, and the roughly 110 mile-wide (180 km-wide) Chicxulub crater, half submerged off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico.

Stop feeling sorry we don’t have any in Kenya no no, Longonot isn’t, neither is Menengai those are volcanic craters, oohh! You’re asking me about the great Rift Valley? c’mon who doesn’t know that is a scar from Gods great axe that split the rocks by force to ignite fire beneath the volcanic hills any way moving long swiftly, Today’s solar system is far less crowded, and in fact Jupiter, having more mass and gravity, [remember the secondary school physics????]Scoops up a lot of the dangerous objects, as does the sun.[ like the recent bruising Jupiter received from a cosmic impact]

Another cool thing is the Earth’s atmosphere, which protects against objects smaller than about 50 meters (160 feet) in diameter, due to friction with the atmosphere they burn out before hitting the surface of the earth, Currently just one NEO of all the objects scientists are tracking poses any significant chance of hitting the Earth — 2007 VK184. If this roughly 425-foot-wide (130 meters) asteroid hit our planet, it would strike with an energy of roughly 150 million tons of TNT, or more than 10,000 times that of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima . Waw!!!!! That’s not good, scary.

However there is hope roughly 100 telescopic observations made so far suggest that 2007 VK184 has a 1-in-2,940 chance of hitting Earth 40 to 50 years from now, however, if the past is any guide, further observations to refine computations of its orbit very likely will downgrade its probability of hitting Earth to virtually nothing! aaahhh ! that’s good isn’t it? I will have got marred by them phew!.

Of remaining concern are the NEOs that we do not see. Researchers suspect about 156 large NEOs 1 kilometer in diameter or larger remain to be found, and when it comes to dangerous NEOs in general, “when we get down to 140 meters (460 feet) or larger diameter objects, we think we’ve discovered about 15 percent of them, and with 50 meters (164 feet) or larger diameter, we’ve discovered less than 5 percent of them,” a scientist explained, And I Lawrence Mwangi will NOT cowed by an imaginary monster stone NEVER!!! …you too right?

my conclusion

So I don’t think there is any major natural catastrophe soon [maybe in next 40-50 yrs] at least most of you reading this post today will be happily marred and rich or dead. So don’t worry about 2012 nothing is gonna happen, just as they said in year 2000 the world will end please don’t remind me I was so so worried I was in church the whole of December 1999, I and my hommies Steve Gichuru aka Stingo, David Njoroge aka Apache and kamau aka DeIcecube wa always scared even when ‘katiaring’ a chic, and on 31 Dec ’99 we were silent scared like freaking chickens on an overnight church service karunga Gilgil, just in case the trumpet sounds, little did we know it was the beginning of our conviction to follow Jesus, of course the world will end in future but not necessarily 2012. The bible is not a textbook of science. Yet there are a large number of verses that touch upon nature and natural processes that can be called scientific topics, and concerning the end this is what God says

1 Thessalonians 5 says ;
¹ Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,² for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Amen to that and I choose to b’live and accept what bible says and for those of us that believe in Jesus we have hope beyond the grave, Christ might return anytime so we got to be ready all the time.

You can sleep a little easier tonight knowing the chances that the Earth will suffer a catastrophic collision with an asteroid over the next hundred years are not as high as previously thought.

    this is mail from my friend and campus mate, born again geologist David Adede

    “hahaha! Lawi, thaz an intersting topic. Am in the process of publishing a book called “From Eden to Heaven” that wud b insightful to u. n way 2 summarize the answer, The world was created billions of years ago (4.6 bil. yrs!) God didnot create a void and formless earth! no, He ‘formed the earth’ (Isa. 45:18). The Lord destroyed it in fury when satan was hurled down after rebellion, we dont know when. Thaz when it became formless n void (Jer. 4:23). Most likely what the bible records from Gen 1:2 is a re-creation from the void n formless earth 6000 yrs ago. There are geological cataclasmic events prophesied in Rev. but these will happen soon after rupture. God will b pouring out his wrath on Christ rejecting world…Dont worry abt that if u r saved. Nothing gonna happen 2 the earth b4 then.”
